Hosted by Design Portland, Unseen Portland Architecture opens on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 5 to 8 pm at the J K Gill building, 408 SW 5th Ave, Portland, Oregon. The exhibition presents unbuilt work from more than 40 local architecture firms alongside unrealized proposals from Portland’s past. LEVER’s University of Arkansas Anthony Timberlands Center is among the projects featured.

LEVER was selected to create a concept design for the University of Arkansas Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation as part of an international design competition. Envisioned as an applied research facility for the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, the proposal would support wood innovation initiatives, the School’s design-build program, and fabrication labs. The scheme centered on a fabrication hall and entry gallery, with classrooms and labs to the east and an auditorium and materials library to the west.

The concept explored the relationship between material origins, production, and architecture through regional timber, including Arkansas-made southern yellow pine glue-laminated beams. Plans also included a covered fabrication yard, café, terraced courtyard, and arboretum, along with passive and active strategies addressing stormwater management and energy use. Responsibly sourced regional timber was proposed as a means of reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
